Advocacy and Policy

EEON also advocates at the policy level.

Our key messages:

  • Climate change and biodiversity collapse are already impacting the mental and physical health of young people across Ontario and are exacerbating existing inequities. It is imperative that young people be equipped with the knowledge and skills to address climate change and build a more just and sustainable future.

  • Environmental and climate change education needs to be integrated into all subjects. Students need education in the science of climate change and its causes; climate change impacts on ecosystems and people - including the disproportionate impacts on Indigenous people and historically marginalized communities; the importance of Indigenous knowledge and stewardship; and the full range of climate solutions.

  • Teachers need to be trained, equipped and supported to deliver this transformational education, and funding must be provided by governments for this purpose.
